Mt. St. Helens - 8300ft

Mt St Helens is my next big hike.

The route begins at Climber's Bivouac, located at the end of Forest Road 830, south of the volcano. At 3,700 feet elevation, Climber's Bivouac has the highest vehicle access on Mount St. Helens.
Start on Ptarmigan Trail #216A which climbs 1,100 feet in 2 1/4 miles to timberline at 4,800 feet elevation.
Above timberline, the route generally follows Monitor Ridge, climbing steeply through blocky lava flows and loose pumice and ash. From timberline the route is marked with large wooden posts to about 7,000 feet elevation. The upper 1,300 feet of the route is unmarked and covered with loose, rock, pumice and ash.

Right about where the arrow points to NEW SUMMIT 8365 is about where we will come over the edge of the rim from Monitor Trail.  If all goes as planned.

As usual, I plan on taking pictures and video.  I expect it will take a full 12 hours to do and plan on starting early.

Tentative date is August 14th provided I secure the required hiking permits in February.

Training has already begun.  THIS IS A BIG ONE!

Short summer

We are at the end of summer already.  I'm currently updating my Photo website....kind of have to...since they are changing their system and in a couple months they will MAKE everyone change over, so I'm trying to get that done.

We're planning Logan's 3rd bday party.

And I also have a couple trips coming up, California which is always fun...and DC, which is always fun too.

That leaves me with Dallas and my travels are over for the year!

Football pool is getting underway here at the end of the month.

YES FOOTBALL!!!

Thats it for now....

I noticed I haven't been here in quite awhile....haha

Still searching...time goes on...

Been awhile since my last post.  What have I been up to?  Hmmm....

I've been training for my next big hike in the fall.  I think we have selected our next peak to conquer.  More to come on this as we finalize the plans.  Looks like early August for this hike...hopefully.  Gym time has been increased.  I'm up to 2.5 hours each day and I'm lucky if I hit 5 or 6 days a week doing it.  I'm not getting any younger.

I have a lot of travel coming up.  We'll see where it takes me.

Life goes on.
